We will be hosting a “BoF session for discussing AS operations by individuals and small communities” at JANOG57, which will take place from February 11 to 13, 2026 at the Congress Convention Center and JAMBASE in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. Overview
In recent years, an increasing number of students, individuals, and non-profit organizations have been obtaining AS number assignments and operating networks for the purpose of learning about networking and server operations. In this BoF, we aim to share experiences, challenges, and best practices among such individuals and organizations operating ASes, and exchange ideas for better AS operation.
This will be the 7th time we are holding this BoF. This time, we plan to focus discussions particularly on technical topics. We would like to have more practical and core technical discussions, including BGP design challenges unique to individual operations that differ from commercial ASes, performance tuning under resource constraints, and automation initiatives.
